The Swedish central bank, Riksbank, has taken legal action by filing a police report following a ransomware assault on Tietoevry, a software company.

The attack, carried out by the Akira ransomware group, has resulted in the disruption of crucial IT systems, including Riksbank's human resources and payroll systems. Bloomberg reports that these systems have been inaccessible for nearly a week since the assault on Tietoevry's data center in Sweden.

Tietoevry has acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating that the impact on clients varies widely depending on factors such as the specific solutions involved, individual workloads, and the complexity of data recovery efforts. The company has assured affected clients that it is actively engaged in planning additional restoration measures, working closely with them to minimize disruption.

This incident underscores the growing threat of ransomware attacks, with EquiLend, a securities lending trading platform, also warning its clients about potential service disruptions following a recent attack. Such attacks highlight the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect critical IT infrastructure from malicious actors.
