TransUnion has reported a new security breach to law enforcement, stating that hackers gained access through a third-party application used to store customer data for its U.S. consumer support operations.
The company has not yet disclosed what specific information was compromised but emphasized that no credit data was involved.
As one of the largest credit reporting agencies in the U.S., TransUnion manages financial information for more than 260 million Americans.
This incident adds to the company’s history of data security challenges. In 2022, TransUnion faced a $15 million ransomware demand after attackers stole 54 million customer records from a server in South Africa.
